Life Paintings

The simplest moments of truth pass by unnoticed. Perhaps we’re unable to see them. In our busy lives, we miss moments that reveal truths about who we are. These unguarded instants flash by, unrecognized and uncelebrated. These are the moments I’ve tried to paint. They are beautiful and strange. They are in-between moments without pose, without affectation. They tell a story without consciousness or vanity.

Children are easiest to capture in these fleeting moments. They are the antithesis of vanity.  Through them I revisit a time when our adult selves were not cognizant of what our faces and bodies were doing. We were just emotion in motion.

A sense of play is also important to this work: a whimsical look toward an imagined reality. The child as master of this imagined universe is the central theme
